Program Overview

Program Description:
The Max Planck Society, the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and Fraunhofer IIS jointly run the International Max Planck Research School (IMPRS) for Optics and Imaging. We are offering PhD Scholarships in Physics and Engineering with topics ranging from fundamental research on modern optics to applied optics and medical imaging. As further partner, Siemens Medical Solutions provides additional scholarships. Doctoral students have the possibility to earn their degree in an international and interdisciplinary environment. The research school provides excellent research conditions and an attractive curriculum. We are looking for excellent international and German students from physics, computer science, engineering, or from a similar field. The students are expected to hold a degree equivalent to a German Diploma or Masters degree. A very good command of the English language is mandatory, as this will be the language of work and instruction. Application deadline is the end of January of each year. In February and March, the selection for the interviews is done, which will take place in April. Final notices of acceptance are issued in May. The main starting period is September and October of the same year. In exceptional cases, intermittent admission is possible.
