Program Overview

Program Description:
The University at Albany partners with the Academy of the National Economy in Moscow to offer this summer internship program. The program gives students opportunities to learn the Russian language, get international work experience and gain a deeper understanding of the contemporary Russian Society by immersing themselves in a Russian context.

The Summer internship Program is 8 weeks long for students with no Russian language background or advanced language background and is 9 weeks long for students who have completed one or two years of college level Russian language courses before the start of the program. All students are required to take a Russian language course at their level, an internship and a weekly seminar on topics about the contemporary Russian society that is taught in English. Internships: Internship placements are available in a wide range of Russian businesses, think tanks and NGOs. Students are expected to work 3-4 hours a day 3-4 times a week for the duration of the program at their host organizations. Students are also expected to meet with their mentors regularly to discuss their experiences and observations in the workplace. Russian Language Course Intermediate Russian: is a 9-week course designed for students who have completed one or two years of college Russian and are focused on developing proficiency in colloquial Russian. The course meets for 4 hours a day, 4 days a week, for a total of 140 language contact hours.

Setting Description:
Throughout the duration of the program, housing will be provided in on-campus dorms of the Russian Presidential Academy. Each room houses two individuals and includes two twin-sized beds, a television, desk, small refrigerator, and a bathroom with shower. Each floor of the dorm is also equipped with a kitchen, recreation area, and an on-duty maintenance worker who can help with various everyday questions. Please see our website for more details.
