Program Overview

Program Description:
In a historic collaboration between Sotheby’s Institute of Art, The Getty Leadership Institute, and the School of Arts and Humanities at Claremont Graduate University, The Center for Management in the Creative Industries (CMCI) at CGU’s Drucker School of Management brings together core values about leadership and management in the arts. CMCI provides management education to students who aspire to work in creative fields. From performing art centers to auction houses, the heart of the CMCI’s programs is the MA Arts Management and the MA in Art Business.

The Master’s Degree program in Art Business offered on our Los Angeles campus uniquely combines core courses from Claremont Graduate University’s Drucker School of Management with staples such as Art Law, International Art Markets, and Professional Practice from Sotheby’s Institute of Art. The degree is granted by Claremont Graduate University (CGU) in partnership with Sotheby’s Institute. To tailor the general Art Business degree, students may choose concentrations in one of three areas: East Asian Art, Latin American Art, or Contemporary Art, or they may select from a range of electives offered by both the Institute and CGU.

Setting Description:
Los Angeles has long been a major center for these industries. Known internationally as the worldwide hub for media, music and entertainment, LA is also a burgeoning axis of contemporary visual and performing art. There is increasing demand for astute, highly-trained and innovative executives and administrators as these disciplines adapt, merge, and migrate to meet the challenges of a technological revolution in a global economy. CGU’s Center for Management in the Creative Industries is the answer to this demand.
