- Since the 1980's the role of the welfare state throughout Europe has been increasingly questioned.Economic, political, ideological, and social pressures have forced changes on all the different models ofthe welfare state including the Scandinavian Social Democratic Model. How these models are likely todevelop during the next decade and the impact of the on-going transformations are important elementsof this course. The Roskilde University programme compares the various models, emphasising thechanging Scandinavian model and its possibilities for surviving as a highly developed, solidaristic model.
