Program Overview

Program Description:

Nottingham is the home of Trent Bridge Cricket Ground, the Panthers Ice Hockey Team, the National Water Sports Centre, and it is the official City of Football for the UK.  Where better to learn the craft of sports journalism?

You will begin by learning how to write scripts for multimedia, including match reports and sports features. You will also explore the use of social media and blogs. You will learn interview techniques in the studio and on location, and see first-hand how a sports journalist works whilst visiting key venues in Nottingham.

You will gain a good understanding of how to construct a multimedia sports story, be able to demonstrate the practical skills relevant to sports journalism, and be able to work effectively as part of a news team.

Once the work behind the scenes is complete, you will then gain the experience of being a television presenter in a studio and on location. You will receive voice training and performance coaching to enable you to feel relaxed and confident in front of the camera. Scriptwriting for bulletins and multi-camera presenting will be taught.

The course is delivered in NTU’s Centre for Broadcasting and Journalism, which houses an industry-standard broadcast suite.

By the end of this course, you will understand how to plan, design and execute research in sports, events and television journalism.
