Program Overview

Program Description:
This programme emphasises training in advanced materials engineering and process intensification skills for a sustainable future. It has been designed to meet the growing need for engineers skilled in materials and process engineering to apply sustainability techniques, and can be taken by graduates in science and engineering.MSc students take compulsory modules (to a value of 110 credits) and select a further module (10 credits) depending on their first degree subject, followed by a four-month research project, leading to a dissertation (60 credits). Diploma students take modules to the value of 120 credits. Modules include: renewable energy û hydrogen and fuel cell technology; sustainable industry; fuel cell systems; process intensification; sustainable design and manufacture; modelling for materials sustainability and processing; nanomaterials; clean technology applications; sustainable processing energy and materials technology; renewable energy û biomass and waste technology; methodology and planning research.Teaching methods include lectures, seminars, student-directed learning, laboratory work, extended course work and tutorials. Assessment is by written examination, course work and, for MSc students, a dissertation based on a project conducted in association with industry or one of the research groups.
