Program Overview

Program Description:
The programme prepares and trains future scientists and executive engineers in charge of modelling and managing projects in hydro-technologies and the environment. It provides opportunities for candidates with degrees in a range of scientific and engineering disciplines to enhance their knowledge of the water environment through a programme involving theoretical, practical and computational (informatics) components.
This MSc programme offers a joint degree between five European universities as a part of the Erasmus Mundus co-operation and mobility programme. The partner universities are: Newcastle University (UK); University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis (France); Brandenburg Technical University Cottbus (Germany); Budapest University of Technology and Economics (Hungary); Polytechnic University of Catalonia (Spain).
You take modules to a total of 120 ECTS credits, including 36 ECTS credits at a different institution from your home institution. The programme spans four semesters. You can spend Semesters 1 and 4 at any of the universities listed. All students spend Semester 2 at Newcastle and Semester 3 at one of the other four universities. Specialisations offered in Semester 3 include: software engineering and modelling (Cottbus); inland waters management (Budapest); decision support systems (Catalonia); and urban waters management (Nice). In Semester 4 you take either a research development project or professional practice in industry. Assessment is by course work, examinations and a dissertation.
