Program Description:

Art offers a graduate program that leads to the Master of Arts in Art, a degree that requires 30 credits weighted toward an involvement in the student's chosen studio area. Specializations in ceramics, drawing, fibers, graphic design, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture are all offered. Applications for this program require a portfolio of the creative work of the applicant (slides or electronic media compatible with Macintosh computers are acceptable) in addition to the application materials required by the College of Graduate Studies and Research.

The degree requirements include a thesis and courses in research, art history, the specialization area, and a related area outside the art department. The primary focus of the degree is the development of creative work for a thesis exhibition, which is supported by documentation in traditional thesis or brochure option form.

For those who already have an art degree and wish to earn K-12 teaching credentials, the College of Education offers programs leading to licensure. Most of these students choose to pursue the Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.), a degree that requires at least 30 credits of education and art education courses.
