Aims of the course This course introduces aspiring and current managers to a range of business disciplines that will enhance your knowledge, skills and practice as managers. Graduates from a variety of disciplines will acquire an understanding of the theory and practice of managerial work and the course will provide you with insights into general management and business strategy. The course is intended for recent graduates who are seeking to enter the job market with an improved ability to manage effectively. For current managers, the course is an opportunity for professional updating and an introduction to the latest developments in management theory and practice. The course is supported by a number of senior academic staff who have research and consulting interests in this field. Professional and Research Fellows who work through the Management Research Centre and the Centre for Equality Research in Business play an active part in the teaching and dissertation supervision. Course structure The course structure consists of six modules and a significant piece of individual research. Modules include: Management Research and Consultancy Managerial Work Organisations and Management Project Management Strategic Management Free option A 15,000-word dissertation is submitted at the end of the course. Career opportunities The course will enable both aspiring and current managers to hone their professional skills and move ahead in their careers. You can also progress to the MBA if you have the appropriate work experience or may develop your dissertation topic into an MPhil/PhD course.
