Program Description:
PURPOSE Aimed at: allied health and social care professionals including nurses, social workers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dieticians and others from the health sciences, as well as students from other disciplines including social and natural sciences, management, policy and politics, law and humanities. DESCRIPTION * Be part of one of the leading centres for the study of ageing and later life worldwide * Optional Public Policy Internship module * Close links and regular speakers from health, social and policy arenas give students insights and up-to-the- minute knowledge of the subject area Core taught elements cover: Population Ageing & Policy (demography, social gerontology, biology of ageing, social policy); Ageing, Health & Society (sociology of health and ageing, health and healthcare services) and Research Methods modules (Designing Quantitative Research for Social Science & Health plus either Quantitative Data Analysis or Designing Qualitative Research for Social Science & Health for PGDip/MSc/MA). You will also take optional modules including Public Policy Internship; Evaluating Public Policy; Researching Vulnerable Populations; Data Manipulation and Management). In addition, MSc/MA students will submit a dissertation based on an independent project. Students registered for the PG Certificate take Population Ageing & Policy and 30 credits of taught modules from the list above. PG Diploma students take all core modules, either Quantitative Data Analysis or Designing Qualitative Research for Social Science & Health, and options modules to gain 120 credits in total.
