Program Overview

Program Description:
Sciences Po has a long history of training decision and policy makers in France. In recent years, the university has undertaken a comprehensive effort to expand beyond the borders of France to educate students from around the globe and to engage issues of global importance from a European perspective. The Sciences Po, Master of Public Affairs plays a central role in that expansion. Established in 2005, the MPA today stands among the best programs of its kind in the world. MPA students arrive with at least three years of post-undergraduate work experience. They hail from nearly sixty countries and every continent and bring a wide range of previous experiences. Each year, the class includes lawyers, engineers, economists, psychologists, journalists, consultants, bankers and managers. The program is designed to build on this diversity with the capstone playing a central role in their education. The MPA curriculum is rigorous and emphases quantitative and qualitative skills in equal measure. This combination is unique among programs of this kind and produces students who have a holistic perspective on the policy process. Our students then head out in the world. Many return to their home countries to resume careers in their domestic civil service. Others seek employment with international or multilateral bodies, NGOs and companies in the private sector that have a need to engage with public policy and public affairs. The program is entirely taught in English.
