Program Overview

Program Description:
Hamline’s EdD program is dedicated to helping ourselves and our colleagues influence society through our work, as well as to developing reflective practice in a multicultural context. Program Structure: Required core courses occur weekly on Friday evenings and all-day Saturday during fall, winter, and spring terms. Program Type: Learning community. Participants remain together throughout core courses, deepening personal connections and enriching shared experiences. Curriculum: 52 semester credits of required coursework through the EdD program, plus 16 semester credits of electives chosen from the School of Education, School of Business, School of Law, or Creative Writing Programs. Cost: $680 per credit Exceptional Curriculum: The quality of the doctoral experience results from the meaningful program design, the exploration of thematic and conceptual frameworks and their implementation, the responsive setting of the learning climate, and the skill and expertise of the faculty and students. Experienced Faculty: The EdD program draws upon a diverse and experienced faculty affiliated with Hamline’s graduate education and other graduate programs. EdD faculty is selected for their proven ability to teach, to advise, and to coach individuals and small groups. Accommodating Schedule: The required courses meet for 14 weeks per term across fall and spring semesters. Students take one 4-credit and one 2-credit core course each semester in six Friday night (5-9 p.m.) and Saturday (9 a.m.-5 p.m.) sessions. Participants remain together throughout all the core courses, thus deepening personal connections and enriching shared experiences. Diverse Student Body: The Hamline University EdD attracts people from a variety of contexts, including higher education, parent education, staff development and training, private industry, and P-12 education. Regardless of vocation, EdD students are willing to grow as teachers, researchers, scholars, and leaders.
