Program Overview

Program Description:
Georgia State offers many summer and maymester programs led and taught by Georgia State professors. These programs tend to be focused on a particular topic or theme and range from 10 to 20 participants, though some are larger. Students participate in lectures, site visits, excursions, and tours as part of the program. These programs usually last between two and six weeks. Students find these programs a great way to really get to know their professors and other GSU students while earning GSU credits and grades. Students do not have to study on a program related to their major, but they certainly can. Financial aid and scholarships are available.

This program is designed to offer students opportunities to learn global trends in pharmaceutical development through a culture and language prism in an exemplary emerging market: China. The 4-week program in Beijing, China, will include formal lectures discussing general topics about pharmaceutical sciences and biotechnology including history and developmental trends. Other activities in Beijing will include guest lectures and site visits to institutes/universities and pharmaceutical companies and contract research organizations (CrOs). There will also be formal lectures on Chinese culture and language, which are essential for an in-depth understanding of the global market. This course also arranges excursion trips around Beijing for students to experience Chinese cultures and history. After the program, students are expected to have a general understanding of the development of pharmaceutical sciences and its trend in globalization, learn about other cultures and gain a general appreciation of how important it is to understand the globalization trend in planning their careers.

Setting Description:
Participants will stay in double occupancy dorms for international students on the campus of Beijing Language and Culture University (BCLU). Meals are partially subsidized.
