Program Overview

Program Description:
In this two-year accredited program, students build upon their existing knowledge of German language and culture and learn a variety of modern teaching methods for use in all types of educational settings. The theory and practice of multilingualism and intercultural communication is also a main area of focus. Optional modules include area studies, analysis and design of teaching materials, and literary and cultural aspects of teaching German as a Foreign Language. In 2006, the MDaF program at the University of Jena was named one of the Top Ten International Master’s Programs in Germany. Students have access to excellent facilities, one-on-one support programs, and a wide range of extracurricular activities. The University of Jena is located in a beautiful and green city of 100,000 residents that combines high-tech industries with a tradition in the humanities that goes back to medieval times. To apply, you must have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent with a major or minor in German.
