Program Description:
Security Studies is an interdisciplinary approach to examining domestic and international aspects of threats and governmental responses. In addition to the contribution of the traditional liberal arts disciplines of Political Science, Sociology, History, and Geography, this program of study involves courses from other colleges: the College of Human Ecology (Criminal Justice); College of Health and Human Performance (Environmental Health); and the College of Technology and Computer Science (Emergency Planning and Information Security). The Security Studies program offers several different programs for students at ECU. At the Undergraduate level, students may do a minor in Security Studies. At the Graduate level, there are two options available to students: a Master of Science in Security Studies and a Graduate Certificate in Security Studies. East Carolina University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees. There is not, as yet, a separate institution that accredits security studies programs.

Requirements:
Masters: completed undergraduate degree, minimum 2.7 gpa, GRE verbal and quantative scores averaged put the student in at least the top 30th percentile, strong letters of recommendation and a well-written personal statement. Certificate: Same as above, but the GRE is not required.
