The M.Sc. in Financial and Capital Markets builds on DCU Business School's reputation as the leading graduate finance educator in Ireland. Now in its seventh year, this one-year Masters programme is designed specifically for students who have just completed their undergraduate studies and who want to complete a full-time taught postgraduate programme in Finance. Aims and Objectives: The financial world's demand for innovation has always been intense. As the financial industry becomes an increasingly complex and challenging environment, the need for o deep understanding of markets, systems and financial instruments has never been greater. Students on the M.Sc. in Finance and Capital Markets will obtain excellent specialist training in treasury and investment management and they will become familiar with the functioning of financial markets. They will also develop their quantitative skills and learn the latest econometrics techniques which are extremely important for a successful career in the financial industry. The course is quantitatively demanding but student learning will be supported by an intensive week of lectures in mathematics and statistics at the start of the academic year, followed by a year-long coursework in quantitative methods for finance. Key aims of the programme are to: Help students understand the functioning of capital markets by exploring the latest thinking in finance and financial economics Develop students' mastery of techniques and methods of analysis useful to solve financial problems, with special emphasis on the challenges faced in treasury and investment management. Ultimately, the objective is to prepare students to become effective decision makers in the financial industry, equipping them for careers in financial markets and institutions and in the treasury function of corporations, as well as in regulatory bodies.
