Program Overview

Program Description:
Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science offers a graduate Urban Public Health program that culminates in a Master of Public Health (MPH). Graduates are prepared to address a wide range of urban health problems prevalent among diverse and underserved communities, such as violence, substance abuse, mental illness, obesity, HIV/AIDS, and cardiovascular diseases, among others. The degree is a 5-semester, 42 minimum credit hours competency-based curriculum designed for working adults. Courses are delivered during evening hours (6 to 9 PM). Students are admitted to the program in the fall semester only and under a fulltime cohort model.

Accreditation:
The program received approval of a graduate degree from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) in early 2006 and opened its doors to graduate students in the fall of 2006. Consistent with program accreditation requirements to have three graduating classes before applying for Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) accreditation, the Urban Public Health program is an applicant for CEPH accreditation and the site visit is scheduled for October 2011.

Completed Application for Graduate Studies and $75 Application Fee; Bachelor's Degree with a 3.0 Cumulative GPA or Higher; Official Transcripts of All College Coursework ; Personal Goal Statement; 3 Recommendations; Official Graduate Record Exam (GRE) Scores (taken within the last five years of application date) – The GRE requirement may be waived for applicants holding a graduate degree with a graduate GPA of 3.0 or higher and/or applicants who can provide official GMAT or MCAT scores (taken within the last five years of the application date).
