Track 1: Students with an advanced Spanish level are eligible to complete a credit-bearing internship in the field of business. The program is designed for students interested in business administration, family and small business management, marketing, tourism and entrepreneurship. The internship represents a total of 90 work hours and students will complete a complementary course alongside the internship to orient them to the economic and business environment of Chile. Students who select the internship option may enroll in one or two additional courses during the summer session, for an additional fee.
Track 2: Students with an advanced Spanish level are eligible to complete a credit-bearing field research opportunity in the field of education. The classwork portion will introduce students to the context of high need public schools in Chile. Considering a practical approach, the students will participate in the everyday life of the school community, working with students, parents, teachers and/or administrators. It is expected that the student make an original contribution to the curriculum of the school. Consequently, the course is designed to meet both the empirical and theoretical work. Firstly, the students will attend class, which will address the Chilean education context and research methodologies. Secondly, the student will be introduced to a particular school, to participate directly in the implementation of a curricular activity for a few weeks.
- Setting Description:
- Built upon dozens of steep hillsides overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Valparaíso boasts a labyrinth of streets and cobblestone alleyways, embodying a rich architectural and cultural legacy. Nicknamed “The Jewel of the Pacific”, Valparaíso was declared a UNESCO world heritage site based upon its improvised urban design and unique architecture.
