Program Overview

Program Description:
Students will study approaches to planning integrated and collaborative care in public health and communities with a focus on the social integration of disadvantaged groups into the main stream of community life and reducing inequalities in health and social status. It has been updated and developed to ensure that it is in line with National Occupational Standards for Practice of Public Health. Each module will address the requirements of one or more of the ten National Occupational Standards. Successful completion of the Award will mean that the requirements of all ten standards should be met. Some of the modules make use of external professional involvement so that there is integration of theory and current practice. Topics such as public health, collaborative working, social integration, participation, equity, voluntary action and community development will be addressed. This course is particularly valuable to professionals who are working in agencies which are concerned with identifying public health interventions and collaborative strategies of care, for example Local Health Boards, Local Authorities, Social Services and housing departments, NHS Trusts, The National Public Health Service, voluntary organisations, housing associations and non-government offices. Individuals who would benefit from the course include: professionals working in public health, health visitors, community nurses, social workers, community development workers, voluntary sector staff and housing organisations. Current students include people working for community initiatives such as Communities First and Sure Start, district nursing, health visiting, social work, voluntary sector and housing.
