Program Overview

Program Description:
Increasingly, modern computer systems and other engineering systems are geographically distributed in nature and diverse in functionality. Some can provide information, others can monitor your home or workplace, while others can provide you with banking facilities to enable you to buy or sell. In addition, much of this functionality can now be provided from your mobile phone. If it is possible for such systems to establish your identity then it is also possible for them to adapt their behaviour to your needs and preferences. However, such systems do not yet evolve naturally; someone must create the applications and engineer the systems which enable such capabilities. This course prepares you to do just that and prepares you educationally to predict the future trends. It is largely concerned with the architecture of distributed systems which have a mobile telecommunications element, and with the use of such systems for remote monitoring and biometric identity management such as would be used in a national identity system.
