Program Overview

Program Description:
The course provides a unique programme that will give students a theoretical grounding in the new field of inquiry in Islamic Jerusalem Studies, engaging students with the contemporary academic debates on the uniqueness of the Islamic Jerusalem region and its role for Muslims as a model for inclusiveness and multiculturalism. The programme will define analytically the new terminology of Islamic Jerusalem and explore how modern Islamic Jerusalem is shaped in part by dialogue with its own past and in part by response to external influences in the region; and how contemporary Muslims seek to relate their heritage in Islamic Jerusalem from the past to the radical situation of today. The programme may be taken either as an end in itself or as an appropriate preparation for postgraduate research. A limited number of scholarships are available from Al-Maktoum Institute for suitable qualified students to pursue the MLitt in Islamic Jerusalem Studies.
