Program Description:
Welcome to the Department of Psychology at Idaho State University. Our department is committed to quality research and teaching. Our general objectives are to facilitate both undergraduate and graduate students' development of: 1) a broad foundation of knowledge of the science of psychology; 2) competence in organizing, interpreting, thinking critically and communicating effectively about scientific theories and research; 3) competence in specific research skills and knowledge of career opportunities and 4) appreciation of individual differences and multicultural competency as representatives of the field of psychology. Our faculty's areas of expertise include clinical, cognitive, social, developmental, personality, learning, physiological, comparative, and behavioral pharmacology. The faculty emphasize mentoring both undergraduate and graduate students. Faculty members are actively involved in programmatic research that is designed to include students and provide them with an opportunity to collaborate with faculty on a diverse array of research projects. Psychology faculty members regularly publish research in scientific journals and present their work at international, national, and regional conferences. Finally, our department has a strong record of providing service to the university, community, and profession. We offer a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science in psychology, a Doctor of Philosophy in experimental psychology, and Doctor of Philosophy in clinical psychology. We currently have 13 faculty, 6 adjunct faculty, 4 clinical affiliates, 508 undergraduate majors, and 37 graduate students involved in our programs.

International Requirements:
International students (whose native language is not English) must achieve satisfactory scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). (1) TOEFL Exam: Total score of 80 with a score of at least 20 on each section (2) IELTS Exam: 6.5 or higher on the overall band (3) Level 112 from ELS Language Centers also meets the English language proficiency requirements. Students must contact the Graduate School at graddean@isu.edu before applying for ELS conditional admission in order to verify that the program of interest offers conditional admission.
