Program Overview

Program Description:
The Asian Cultural History Program offers an interdisciplinary approach to university study abroad, with experiential learning in major cultural and historical sites in Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and China. Instructional delivery is designed to integrate teaching with site visits. Class sessions are usually scheduled around or during the program activities. Lectures are held during museum visits and on sites such as the Ho Chi Minh Museum in Hanoi, Angkor War in Cambodia, the Royal Palace in Bangkok, and the Great Wall in China, thus, providing students with direct experience and unforgettable class sessions. All faculty members on the Cultural History Programs hold Ph.D.s or M.F.A.s from leading universities. In 28 years, our staff has conducted more than 145 successful tours to Western and Eastern Europe, Russia, Israel, Egypt, China, Vietnam and Thailand.

The Asian Cultural History Program (June 30 - August 5, 2013) is a 35 day academic travel-study tour which visits Hanoi, Halong Bay, and Saigon in Vietnam, Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Angkor in Cambodia, Bangkok in Thailand, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Xian and Beijing in China. Students must take 6 hours credit in history, political science, and fine arts.

The Asian Cultural History Program is a truly unique travel-study program. Cultural performances are included in the program fee as well as museum tickets and visits to sites. All lodging, welcome and departure meals and select special dinners are included in the program cost. The program fee includes all program city-to-city travel by air, bus, metro, train, overnight couchette or overnight ferry.
Setting Description:
Since this program travels to many cities in Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and China, it provides a unique opportunity for dialogue between students and faculty to experience travel and program activities. All members of the group travel together, stay in the accommodations provided by the program, and participate in program activities together. The Cultural History Programs provide the opportunity for students to gain both experiential and academic knowledge of the cultures visited during the program.
