Program Overview

Program Description:
This course is run jointly by the School of History and Archaeology and the Department of Welsh. It is a full-time scheme and lasts for one academic year. All students take an introductory core course which aims to develop research skills and understanding of the various kinds of source material. Individual attention is given to students in the light of their differing academic backgrounds. In addition, students select twooptions from the following: i) the Iron Age archaeology of the Celts; ii) post-Roman Britain and Ireland: the archaeology and literary sources; iii) the Arthurian legend; iv) the Mabinogion and its context. All options are examined by written papers or coursework. The initial core course is assessed by presented coursework. Students also present a dissertation of not more than 20,000 words on an approved topic. Thisis submitted by the end of the academic year in which the course is taken. Alternatively one postgraduate option may be replaced by appropriate undergraduate modules such as languages or archaeological techniques.
