Program Overview

Program Description:
Work the World arranges healthcare placements in Argentina, Ghana, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Tanzania, for students of a variety of healthcare specialities and qualified professionals from around the world. Our placements run throughout the year and are tailored to your interests, experience and abilities, as well as any course requirements you may be expected to meet. As such they can be done at any stage of your healthcare training, including during clerkship/clinical rotations or as a summer elective placement. Our aim is to take all the hassle out of organizing your placement, by providing you with the following: Flexible arrival and departure dates A choice of specialties A placement supervisor Local accommodation in a Work the World house All your meals Extensive support from our staff, both at home and overseas

We aim to take the hassle out of organizing electives. When you sign up with us we work hard to find you a placement which reflects your interests and any course requirements you may have. You will be allocated a supervisor who is a senior member of the department you are working in, and you will be given a workload appropriate to your experience and abilities. You will live in one of our Work the World houses, where your meals will be provided by one of our housekeepers, and our local staff will be on hand to support and guide you through every step of your journey.

The experiences you will have on your overseas clinical placement are likely to be vastly different from anything you are used to in the country in which you train. In a number of our destinations the medical centers are under-resourced and it's no exaggeration to say that you may find yourself working with equipment and in conditions which really test your skills, abilities and emotions.
Setting Description:
We work both in large regional hospitals and smaller district hospitals, as well as with other healthcare initiatives such as AIDS/HIV education programmes. If you can let us know your areas of interest our strong links in the medical communities ensure that we can accommodate almost any specific preferences you might have. All of the countries we work in were chosen as they all offer excellent healthcare settings, are politically and economically stable, and are all English or joint English speaking – meaning that students who join us have little problem while working with patients and local healthcare professionals.
Cost:
Placements start at £1040 GBP / $1890 USD
