- In September 2000, West Chester University become one of a few institutions of higher education in the nation to offer a master of arts degree in the field of Holocaust and Genocide studies. faculty from seven departments have cooperated to design this interdisciplinary cirriculum. Participants in the program also include visiting professors, survivors, and American servicemen who helped liberate the concentration camps in Europe during the last years of WWII. ThisMA program is being offered at WCU to help meet the growing need for teachers and scholars trained in this subject area. Increasingly, more states, including, Pennsylvania, are requiring the teaching of the Holocaust in secondary schools. Students receive their masters in this program would also be well poised for doctoral work or research positions in museums and nonprofit organizations. Since many of the students in this program are already working adults, courses typically are offered in the summer and evening.
