Program Description:

The master of arts in geography develops skills and expertise for spatial prolem solving in areas such as land-use plannign and management, conservation of resources, demographic change, and location of commerce and industry. It also serves as preparation for entrance into PhD programs in geography, planning, and environmental science/sustainability. There is a strong emphasis on research methology and in the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology. A Thesis is recommended but not required. Students may focus their degree in one of several guided directions: Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and related spatial analysis applications, urban and regional planing, and environmental and sustainability analysis. Sypporting courses in other departments complement offerings in each of these areas. Certificate options include that of Urban and Regional Planning (15 credits) and Geographic Technology (12 credits).
