Program Description:
The program area of Educational Psychology offers a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology. The Counseling Psychology program emphasizes training in personal and interpersonal practice with individuals, children, couples, and families. The program prepares students to work with children and families as well as to improve personal and interpersonal functioning for individuals across the life span. This Master of Arts program offers a thorough preparation in individual assessment and four core areas of psychology such as psychopathology, psychological assessment, human development, and evidence-based theoretical approaches to conduct psychotherapy with individuals, children, couples, and families. Graduates of the program will be prepared to work as mental health providers in community and private settings, primary care settings, and employee assistance programs. Graduates of the Counseling Psychology program will also be eligible to continue toward the Educational Psychology PhD with a concentration in School Psychology. This program continues the student’s preparation to work effectively with children, and/or their families with personal, familial, or educational challenges. Students may apply to the doctoral program in the fall semester of their second year in the masters program.
