Ukraine is one of the countries where social integrity exists alongside with a variety of regional distinctions. These distinctions arose due to historical events that contributed to the country’s development when people from different Ukrainian regions established and shaped their own traditions and customs. The mission of the summer school “Authentic Culture of Eastern Ukraine” is to promote Eastern Ukraine as a multicultural region assimilating a number of Ukrainian and other countries’ traditions. Eastern Ukraine borders Russia, which obviously has a great influence on the way of life of Eastern Ukrainians. It is worth saying that Eastern Ukrainians are very hospitable to people from other countries and are open to new experiences. Historically, the Russian language is mainly used in everyday life in Eastern Ukraine (nowadays, Russian is an official regional language in Kharkiv) – that is the reason why it was chosen as the working language for the summer school.
