- Program Type:
- Study Abroad
- Degree Level:
- Academic Year, Fall Semester, Spring Semester
- Program Description:
The Hague lies on the North Sea and is a modern and sophisticated city, being one of four United Nation cities in the world. It is also one of the greenest cities in Europe, buzzing with outdoor activity and an abundance of recreational facilities. It is rich in history and is the home of the central government and the Royal family. The Netherlands was one of the six founding members of the European Union, and The Hague is often referred to as The City of Peace. It is home to the International Criminal Court, Peace Palace, War Crimes Tribunal, and Europol. Throughout the city, each square, street, and boulevard has its own ambiance. Step outside of town and find the Holland Flower Auction, where 80 percent of the flowers sold are exported around the world, or sit on the sandy beaches, soaking in the sun at Kijkduin and Scheveningen.
Taught in English Though our agreement with The Hague University of Applied Sciences, an array of courses from the Faculty of Management and Organisation will be made available for you to take. Courses believed to be of most interest to USAC students are included below as a sample of what the university offers. Courses are subject to availability and approval of prerequisites which are determined by the host university. Courses are taught in English by lecture and small group work. All students are required to take the semester-long course, Introduction to Dutch Culture and Society. A full credit load for a semester is 27-30 ECTS (typically 15 US credits). Some courses run for the entire semester, while most run either the first term (six weeks) of the semester or last term (six weeks) of the semester. Six-week courses are typically 3 ECTS (1.5 US credits). Keep in mind that you must enroll in the equivalency of at least 12 US credits per semester (even if host university requirements are lower). Be sure to have plenty of primary and alternate course options in mind as schedules are subject to change and registration in your preferred courses is not guaranteed. Grades may not be ready until one or two months after exams are completed; in some cases it may take longer. Check your Credits, Courses, and Transcripts document in Gateway for details specific to your host university. The transcript evaluation and grade reporting process at your home university will also take time after your overseas transcripts arrives. If you plan to study here during your senior year, review your home university requirements carefully to allow enough time for grades to be posted for graduation. Plan to work ahead with your academic advisor if you will be using your study abroad coursework to meet prerequisites back at home.
The Hague program is administered in the US by USAC and in the Netherlands by The Hague University’s Program Coordinator, Rajash Rawal. Raj will help you with any questions you may have regarding academic matters while the International Office staff will provide you with the mandatory on-site orientation, assist with your housing and class registration, and oversee your well-being.
