Program Overview

Program Description:
Welcome to the School Psychology area of the Department of Educational Psychology! We offer both a combined M.S./Ed.S. degree program and a Ph.D. degree program with concentrations in School Psychology. The School Psychology Program adheres to American Psychological Association (APA) and National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) guidelines for graduate training. Both degree programs are NASP-approved, and the Ph.D. program is additionally accredited by the APA. Professional preparation in School Psychology at UWM provides students with a broad theoretical background, as well as evidence-based clinical skills through didactic, field placement, practica, and internship experiences. The program has a strong urban mission, and is dedicated to increasing knowledge, sensitivity, and awareness of practices best suited for individuals from diverse socio-cultural backgrounds. We use a scientist-practitioner model to inform our development of the course work, practica, and internship requirements. Principles of biological, psychological, cultural, and sociological sciences are emphasized as applied to urban school, mental health, and educational settings. Our website contains all of our program information, accessible from the navigation bar above. The sections for each of the specific degree programs contain a brief overview as well as links to the Program Handbooks, which describe the program models, entry requirements, objectives, typical course of study, and completion requirements in detail. Our Faculty page gives a brief description of the research interests of each of our School Psychology faculty members, along with selected sample publications, contact information, and links to the main School of Education faculty profile pages. Our How to Apply page provides an itemized list of steps necessary to apply to one of our programs, and finally we have provided a list of answers to common questions. Further questions may be directed to the person indicated on each of the degree information pages, and general questions about the application process or department may be directed to the Educational Psychology front office.
