Program Overview

Program Description:

The univie: summer school for European Studies is organized by the Sommerhochschule of the University of Vienna. The program offers four weeks of European Studies and intercultural exchange. Over 100 students from more than 30 nations attend the summer program every year. The diverse student body creates ideal conditions for intercultural and social learning. The interdisciplinary character of the European Studies courses allows students to think and learn beyond their field of study. They get the chance to work with fellow students from various academic disciplines. The European Studies courses are held in English and focus on Europe and the European Union. They cover political, economic, and legal, but also historical and cultural aspects of the multiple transformations the continent is currently undergoing. Students will study both the processes within the various institutions as well as the goals of the EU as a whole. In addition to that German courses are offered on four levels of proficiency (A1, A2, B1, and B2). The faculty consists of 16 professors devoted to the International Summer Program. They are carefully chosen for their expertise and their motivation to teach international students. The engaging campus life stimulates joint activities. Students make friends for life and build connections for their future professional careers.

The international diverse student community consists of 100 students from 30 nations.

Students are accommodated on campus, directly on a lake shore against a breathtaking mountain backdrop.

The academic courses are taught by distinguished scholars with international teaching experience.

Students receive internationally accredited ECTS credits for each completed course.

Students who successfully complete four courses receive the SHS Diploma in European Studies.

Setting Description:
The picturesque campus is located directly on the shore of Lake Wolfgang in one of Austria’s most famous vacation areas. It is surrounded by meadows and woods and offers a spectacular view of the nearby mountains. The campus features a variety of sport and recreational facilities (e.g. swimming in the lake, row boats, sports hall, football field). A pier and boat house invite students to relax, sunbathe or meet with others. Sport trainers offer free courses throughout the duration of the summer program. On the weekends excursions to the city of Salzburg, St. Wolfgang and Ebensee are organized.
Cost:
€ 2,271 EUR. Summer school fees include registration, tuition, the Austiran students' union fee, use of all sports and recreational facilities (including beach volleyball and windsurfing lessons), and all planned excursions. For accommodation and full board on campus the additional fees are: Accommodation in a single room: € 1,890.70 Accommodation in a double room: € 1,565.90

Requirements:
Applicants have to be at least 18 years old and must have completed two years of studies at college or university level in their countries of residence or have an educational background equivalent to one year at a European university before the beginning of the program. Applicants must be in attendance for the whole period of the summer school, be able to take part in the number of required courses, have an adequate command of the English language and be in good health. Students whose native language is not English must submit evidence of proficiency in English with their application.
