Program Description:
The certificate program provides professionals with an introductory understanding into the opportunities and challenges involved when integrating information technology into health care. Professionals will be able to participate in designing, planning, implementing and evaluating information technology used in health care settings. Students can choose from three different certificates in Health Informatics, which include The Certificate of Health Informatics, The Certificate of Applied Health Informatics and The Certificate of Public Health Informatics. Each certificate consists of 5 courses, for a total of 15 semester credit hours. The Certificate of Health Informatics is designed for health care professionals as well as information technology professionals working in the health care setting, this certificate is offered online or in person and can be obtained via two options: Option 1 - A set of 5 classes with an emphasis in clinical informatics. Option 2 - Any 5 classes chosen from the catalog. This option allows professionals interested in biomedicine or learning and technology to customize their certificate to meet their needs. The Certificate of Applied Health Informatics is designed for motivated professionals working in health information technology fields, to provide them with the knowledge and skills to assess, implement, maintain and evaluate Electronic Health Records (EHRs) and health information systems. This certificate is 100% online and can be obtained via two options: Option 1 - A set of 5 predetermined courses with an emphasis in Electronic Health Records (EHRs). Option 2 - Any 5 classes chosen from the course set of the Master of Science program in Applied Health Informatics with guidance from the Certificate Program Director. This option allows professionals to customize their studies to meet their background and needs. The Certificate of Public Health Informatics consists of five courses (some are offered online and some in person) from both the School of Public Health and the School of Biomedical Informatics. This certificate is designed for physicians, nurses, public health and allied health practitioners interested in the public health aspects of informatics.

International Requirements:
All students with international college transcripts must submit a "course by course" evaluation report by an independent organization such as Educational Credential Evaluators or World Education Services prior to admission to the school. Test score of English as a foreign language TOEFL. A minimum paper-based test of 550, a minimum computer-based test of 213, and an internet-based score of writing 26, speaking 23, reading 21, listening 17, and total of 87. Please note: Students on a F-1 student visa are not eligible to enroll in the Certificate programs.
