Program Overview

Program Description:
During the last three years the rapid political transformations that have swept across the Middle East and North Africa have brought about a myriad of challenges for transitional governments, among these have been the holding of free and fair elections. Elections have played a pivotal role in establishing the trajectories of Arab Spring transitions, while electoral participation, active citizenship, and the holding of free and fair elections have proven crucial to both the legitimacy of transitional governments and establishing enduring governing institutions at the local and national levels. It is within this context that we will return to the University of Sousse’s Faculty of Law and Political Science for our third annual summer school on a theme related to Tunisia’s political transition. Last year we held our successful summer school on Democracy and Good Governance and 2012 marked our first summer school at Sousse, which was on Democracy and Transitional Justice.
