Program Overview

Program Description:
The University of New Mexico has been granting Latin American Studies graduate degrees since 1941. The program draws on UNM's cross-campus excellence in research, scholarship and teaching on Latin America, and is dedicated to advancing knowledge in, and service to, the field. The Latin American Studies (LAS) program is administratively housed within the College of Arts and Sciences. The College of Arts and Sciences confers all LAS degrees, and the Director of LAS reports to the Associate Dean for Faculty. The LAS program is physically housed within the Latin American and Iberian Institute. The LAS program is an interdisciplinary program that grants the M.A. and Ph.D. degrees. In addition to the M.A. in Latin American Studies, the program has established dual degree options with five professional schools (Business Administration, Community and Regional Planning, Education, Law, and Nursing). Faculty and courses linked to the LAS program represent 14 departments and 6 schools/colleges from across campus.
