Program Description:

The Department of Pharmacology and Experimental Neuroscience at the University of Nebraska Medical Center is a part of the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences Neuroscience graduate program, which offers formal courses and research training in pharmacology and neuroscience leading to the doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.) or master of science (M.S.) degrees.

Pharmacology is the study of the interactions of drugs and natural chemicals with biological systems. Thus, pharmacology research includes studies ranging from gene regulation and the molecular biology of nerve cell communication to human toxicology and clinical evaluation of novel gene-specific therapies.

The program provides students with exposure to diverse areas of pharmacology and neuroscience in a stimulating research environment with state-of-the-art techniques and well-supported core facilities, most located in the new Durham Research Center and Durham Research Center II buildings. International research internships in Switzerland, China or with various drug companies in the U.S. are a unique aspect of the program.
