Program Description:

This master's degree in Special Education offers teachers a choice in the following three areas of study: Advanced Practitioner, Gifted, or Mild/Moderate Disabilities.

   1.  Advanced Practitioner is designed for teachers who currently hold certification in Special Education and would like to further their education. Within this 36 credit hour degree program, a student may choose an emphasis in Learning Disabilities, Behavior Disorders, Assistive Technology or Secondary/Transition.  Students must hold a Bachelor's Degree with a standard Teaching Certificate in Special Education.

   2.  Gifted Education is a 36-credit hour degree program designed for teachers who currently hold an undergraduate degree in education and would like to further their education. The Gifted Education degree is designed to prepare educators with the knowledge base and competencies necessary for the appropriate education of gifted and talented learners.  Students must hold a Bachelor's degree with a standard Teaching Certificate.

   3.  Mild/Moderate Disabilities is a 36 credit hour program designed for teachers who currently hold a teaching certificate in any discipline and would like to obtain certification in special education in the state of Nebraska.  Students pursuing certification in other states must check with their State Department of Education for certification requirements.  Students must hold a Bachelor's Degree with a standard Teaching Certificate.
