Program Description:
M.A. programs are offered in Icelandic, History, Philosophy, Comparative Literature, English and Danish. M.A. students must complete 60 credits, which means two years of full-time study. The faculty does not offer stipends to M.A. students.Doctoral programs are offered in Icelandic literature, Icelandic linguistics and History. The Dr.Phil degree takes as a rule four years to complete. Candidates for the degree are required to spend one academic year at a university abroad during their tenure. The doctoral students are entitled to available office space in the Faculty's research centre (see Centre for Research in the Humanities). Doctoral students do not receive financial aid from the University.The M.Paed. program is a research oriented graduate program for students who wish to become elementary or secondary school teachers in their fields. This program is also open to experienced teachers who wish to strengthen their educational basis. 45 credits are required to graduate 15 of which are taken in the education department (See Faculty of Social Sciences).
