- Master reading Teachers (MRTs) are certified by Texas' State Board for Educator Certification to teach and to mentor other teachers in the field of Reading. The program is designed to improve reading scores on high need campuses identified by below average scores on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) reading test. If you complete the Reading Specialist Certification, there is no further TExES for the Master Reading Teacher certification.
