Program Overview

Program Description:

This course has been designed for registered nurses from all specialties.

It will offer you a supportive, international learning environment where you will learn alongside nurses at various stages of their careers. This course will provide you with an excellent grounding in the UK’s four 'Pillars of Practice: clinical practice, facilitation of learning, leadership and evidence, research and development.

This full-time, 12-month course is based at the University of Dundee’s School of Nursing and Health Sciences, which is a research-active school. Not only do our staff utilise contemporary nursing research, our staff and our students are generating research findings which are shaping current and future healthcare for individuals, families and communities.

Through learning with nurses from other countries and other specialties, you will develop your awareness of different cultural approaches and ways of working. In addition, there will be some opportunities to undertake a workplace experience in an NHS, research or educational setting, enabling you to gain first-hand insights into how healthcare is provided in the UK

The course is based on the realities of clinical practice and evidence and includes many opportunities for debate and discussion, with fellow nurses, your lecturers, other student groups and topic experts.

The course consists of four modules and a dissertation, which may be based on a workplace experience. During the course, you will critically review your professional practice and use this as a platform for future professional and personal development. You will also learn how to critically appraise and analyse research, evaluate theory relating to leadership and change and demonstrate detailed knowledge, skills and values relating to professional education.

By the end of the course, you will have gained a wide range of generic, transferable skills, flexibility, independence and the confidence to take the next step in your nursing career. You will be able to use your newly-acquired skills to create positive outcomes and to develop and introduce innovative methods of working, providing leadership in your own setting.
