Program Overview

Program Description:

Product Design at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design will train you to design products that meet the needs of real people. We are an award-winning programme with strong links with industry and a vibrant studio-based culture.

We have a design process that generally starts by undertaking human-centred research to inspire our work. We apply this knowledge to our diverse design skills and technological know-how, to make real and valuable difference in the lives of people. Keep reading to find out more about our core values.

People
We will help you to develop the essential skills to identify and respond to people’s needs, using a number of people-centred research methods. We teach our students to find out what people want and how to design the right products for them. We often work closely with stakeholders in the community to find meaningful outcomes.

Technology
We develop designers who can explore existing and emerging technologies in a playful way. Our students go on to use these technologies as a creative medium throughout the design process. We are particularly interested in digital technology and the role it plays in people’s everyday lives.

Design
We will work with you in our studios, helping you to become part of the next generation of leading designers. We promote a culture of ‘thinking through making’ and teach you techniques to prototype throughout the design process. You will become equally comfortable programming electronics, making models or using computer aided design methods.
