Program Description:
This program prepares students for research and teaching careers in social psychology. Specific expertise of the Social faculty includes emotion, social cognition, social neuroscience, and coping. The program emphasizes integration of traditional social psychological approaches with approaches from cognitive neuroscience. Accordingly, students are trained to conduct research using methods of social and cognitive psychology as well as neuropsychology and psychophysiology. In addition, students have the opportunity to examine social psychological questions both in normal populations and in special populations, such as individuals with autism, fragile X syndrome, sensory modulation dysfunction, or acquired frontal and temporal lobe damage. The social labs have computer, psychophysiological, and audiovisual equipment for experiments and data analysis.
