Program Overview

Program Description:
Our program seeks to attract students with a strong interest in conducting research on child clinical problems. We emphasize the close, mutually stimulating and enriching alliance between clinical and research work. Training experiences are designed to increase the likelihood that clinical research will be carried out with optimum rigor, sophistication, and sensitivity. To this end, the student is exposed to general psychological theory, a significant developmental orientation, research methodology, and a substantial amount of clinical technique/theory. Students' learning experiences are characterized by a fairly high degree of flexibility and apprenticeship opportunities. Clinical training meets APA recommended levels of practica and supervision so that students develop a clear concept of themselves as clinical psychologists and of the relevance of clinical methods for studying psychopathology. Finally, we envision a diverse array of professional careers for our students, prominently including research careers in universities, institutes, and medical schools, but also embracing leadership roles in public service, teaching, and clinical practice.
