Program Overview

Program Description:
This course will appeal to graduates from a range of bioscience, food science and biology disciplines who wish to further their careers in the area of food biotechnology by extending their current qualifications and experience. The one-year course involves two semesters of taught modules followed by a semester of project work/dissertation. The taught course includes theoretical, practical and applied elements of food biotechnology and provides the opportunity to specialise in areas such as food safety management, food bioprocessing and biotechnology, food microbiology and industrial biotechnology. The course is supported by seminars delivered by industry specialists and experts and by visits to food biotechnology laboratories and industries. On completion of the taught component of the course, you will have the opportunity for work-based learning or live project work by way of a five-month research or investigative project. This may be undertaken in a research institute or food biotechnology company outwith the University, or within a university research laboratory and/or in collaboration with the Abertay Food Innovation Centre.

Entry to the course will be based on prior learning, experience and suitability for the proposed programme. Applicants should normally have an Honours degree in a relevant discipline, e.g. Food and Nutrition; Food Technology; Food Science; Biology; Biological sciences; Microbiology; Biotechnology; Agri-sciences; Food and Consumer Sciences. Candidates holding an acceptable equivalent qualification and/or suitable prior experience are welcome to apply.
