- Program Description:
- The benedictine monastery of S. Vincenzo al Volturno, spread down the wonderful Rocchetta plane, not far away the Volturno river source, represents one of the most important monastic settlement in Europe. Founded at the beginning of the VIII century, the settlement, grows and became, through the centuries, a political and cultural centre, thanks to the action of great political personalities which have built the european history. The long archaeological survey in S. Vincenzo brought to light the traces of this important monastic town, that cover an area of 2 ha.
The first purpose of the Archeo-School is the promotion of this interesting medieval settlement and its territory, through a didattic approach based on main methods of archaeological research.
The school lasting two weeks includes: -Frontal lessons about: history of the settlement and its territory in the middle ages, and knowledge of monastic manifacturing -Archaeological excavation -Processing of Archeaeological documents (records of: stratigrahic unit SU, masonry SU, Small Finds) -Processing of photographic and graphic records with the aid of theodolite, drone, pad. 2d and 3d relief -Knowledge and analysi of the main archaeological finds (pottery, iron, glass, inscriptions) which are preserved in one of the most large european warehouse. -Activities of post excavation :washing, marking, recording and drowing of finds -Guided tours in the archaeological sites of Molise.
You can work in one of the most important Italian archaeological sites . The excavations , accompanied by lectures and tours of the archaeological sites in the area , will help you understand the phenomenon of monasticism in Southern Italy and the importance of San Vincenzo in the history of South Italy .
