UFM Summer School 2012 Antigua, Guatemala This program has been created for students who want to improve their Spanish language skills and explore Latin American history, politics and society. UFM Summer School 2012 will take place in Antigua, a historic colonial town in Guatemala.

This program has been created for students who want to improve their Spanish language skills and explore Latin American history, politics and society. UFM Summer School 2012 will take place in Antigua, a historic colonial town in Guatemala. The mission of Universidad Francisco Marroquín is to teach and disseminate the ethical, legal and economic principles of a society of free and responsible persons.

With internationally trained teachers and a proven track record for academic quality, Universidad Francisco Marroquín in Guatemala City is consistently ranked one of the top institutions of higher learning in Latin America. Amable Sánchez Torres Contemporary Spanish grammar for intermediate to advanced students. This course will examine the characteristics of the language as well as the cultural depth derived from more than four hundred million Spanish speakers around the globe. Carlos Sabino This course explores the continued influence of the Ibero-American experience from independence through the twentieth century with special emphasis on the political process that gave rise to caudillismo and the delayed emergence of nation states. Students will apply critical thinking to develop a clearer understanding of the present. Eduardo Fernández-Luiña An introduction to the philosophical world of Spanish and Latin American thinkers from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The course will examine how this substantial group of thinkers—considered by many to be the founders of economic science—understood human nature, the economy, and politics.

Antigua, Guatemala The historic colonial town of Antigua, gateway to Guatemala’s rich indigenous culture, is the setting for this challenging summer school program for students who want to improve their Spanish language skills and explore Latin American history, politics, and society. With internationally trained teachers and a proven track record for academic quality, Universidad Francisco Marroquín in Guatemala City is consistently ranked one of the top institutions of higher learning in Latin America. All summer school clases are taught in Spanish by UFM faculty at a beautiful seventeenth-century colonial property that it owns and operates in Antigua—the spectacular Casa Popenoe.

Application Fee US$75.00 Program Fee US$4,500.00 This fee includes: Official academic certification, airport transfers, hotel (27 nights), breakfast, and lunch from monday to friday.
