Program Overview

Program Description:
In less than a year you could be working in a dental office. The UMA Dental Assistant with Expanded Functions program trains you to work both in patient exams rooms and at the front desk. UMA’s hands-on training educates you to prepare patients for treatment, assist dentists during procedures, take and process x-rays, perform laboratory procedures and help in front office positions. Also, learn how to take impressions, remove sutures, apply fluoride treatments, schedule appointments and manage patient flow. Employers may seek all of these skills. After completing the classroom lectures and campus lab training, you complete a hands-on externship with a local dentist. Graduates receive their Expanded Functions Dental Assisting certificate and are eligible to become a Registered Dental Assistant upon the successful completion of the national board exam offered through American Medical Technologists (AMT).
