Program Overview

Program Description:
What can you do with a master's degree in Library and Information Science? As a librarian, you will organize and manage the resources including books, DVDs, and supplies. However, you will also have the privilege of collaborating with teachers to teach research skills, technology skills, and content so all students learn. The main focus of the MLIS program is to prepare classroom teachers to become leaders as library information specialists in school libraries. The degree is also appropriate for individuals who desire to work in other types of libraries that emphasize services to children and young adults. This program is distinctive because it not only provides an endorsement as a library media specialist to an existing teaching license but it is also a full degree in library science nationally recognized by the American Association of School Librarians. Completion of this program should enable graduates to: Use a variety of technologies in the library and classroom settings; Understand professional and ethical issues related to library services; Select resources appropriate to library patrons; Be a leader in the workplace; Develop and organize the resources for a library; and Manage effectively the many tasks required for a quality library program.
