Program Overview

Program Description:

Science teachers are in great demand. The Master’s program in Biology Education is designed to help meet the increasing need for science teachers and geared towards individuals who work or live in Westchester.

Taught by Touro College Graduate School of Education faculty and leveraging faculty, expertise, and resources at New York Medical College’s Valhalla campus to teach select science courses, students receive exposure to the education and science expertise of the faculties at both Touro and NYMC, respectively.

The 30-credit program meets all requirements for initial New York State Certification, and will prepare you to teach biology and general science, at the middle and high school levels (Grades 7-12 with downward extension to Grade 5).

The 10-course curriculum covers teaching methods, classroom skills, and technological literacy, in addition to biology content. All students also complete two terms of practice teaching experience in Westchester-area classrooms.

Because many of our students work or have family obligations, we provide flexible evening hours and some online courses so that the program can be completed in two years while working.
