Program Description:

Our program is designed for qualified teachers interested in additional certification in Bilingual Special Education. We focus on increasing your understanding of and sensitivity to the specific needs and potential of English Language Learners with speech and hearing disabilities, autism, developmental delays, and other impediments to learning.

Our five-course program includes significant field experience. Each course focuses on a particular aspect of bilingual special education, from dynamic assessment to how to work with various disabilities to effective strategies for teaching native language literacy. Throughout each course, we stress the importance of considering cultural factors alongside individual abilities in teaching bilingual students with special needs.

When you complete the 15-credit program, you’ll be eligible to apply through NYSED for your advanced certification, with Touro’s recommendation.
